You probably guessed the handle is made from the tusk of a warthog. 

You hunters may have guessed the flap is a center-cut hide of a black springbok. 

Fancy a guess as to what the “bag” is made from?

Notice the way the top bead and the side welting is from the benedictine colored

calf the tops are made of. Then the counter and vamp are side-welted with the black

French calf.  This is a great custom look!  Takes more time on my part but I love the

way it looks.

 

In this picture I had just gotten them wet, turned them and rolled the side seams.  More to come..

French calf  vamp and counter with a great toe bug. The owner picked two blue rows of stitching similar to the color of this font and one row of black in a classic western stitchdesign. Love the pull holes on a pair of boots. Not sure I would recommend pull holes if you wear dresses. The owner of these boots won’t be wearing any dresses so the pull holes are a safe bet.

He cut the length of the blade, gave it a beautiful wood tang and fashioned a deer antler handle on this little sweetie! It fits my hand, gives me the control I need in order to use it with confidence. 

Who is this local artisan you ask?  This is a young man that is focused on night school (engineering), working his tail off during the week for a well driller, hunting when he can with his sweet dog Dixie and making knives with his remaining upright hours.  Tim Butler is from Napa, CA and can fix you right up.  It is so refreshing to see a young man working hard, doing all he can do to get ahead and more.  I had him make my husband a damascus blade knife with an antler shed from Joe Montana’s ranch.  Very cool!  Cooler yet were the hor de vours spoon and fork he set into the small tusks of the warthog my husband harvested in South Africa.   Need a custom knife, custom utensils, custom corkscrew from your warthog tusk, salad spoons from red stag sheds?  This kid can do it and it reasonable.  Send me an email if you want Tim Butler’s contact information.

Put it on your calendar next year. It is worthy.  I got to meet Lacy J Dalton!  She signed my red cherry alligator boots! Her album ”Lacy J Dalton” was one of the first two vinyl records I ever purchased as a punk.  Some of my cowboy song singin’ favorites were there… Don Edwards, Dave Stamey and the one and only Waddie Mitchell.  Belinda Gail was there sportin’ her fabulous Joe Patrickus custom boots. Sadly, the occassion was marked by the passing of Curly Musgrave. He will be missed by all.Lacy J and Terri Monterey 2009
